DEI Symposium FAQ
Who can participate in the program?
Although the symposium is geared towards educators, teachers and program administrators, anyone interested in developing inclusive practices in the creative classrooms can attend the program.
I am not a writer of color. Can I still participate?
Yes! Although most of our programs are exclusively designed for writers of color, the symposium is intended for everyone, regardless of racial and ethnic background.
I am currently not affiliated with any institution. Can I still participate?
Yes! Please include the name of the last institution you were affiliated with, or any programs, community centers, independent workshops where you practice your teaching (in your registration form).
How many people can participate per institution?
Because the symposium has limited capacity, we have to cap at two people per institution. If you’re interested in signing up more, please contact us first.
What will the programming look like?
The symposium includes: talks and conversations with experienced professionals in the filed; case studies of successfully implemented inclusive curriculums; cultivating alternative modes of craft; sessions on designing more inclusive workshops; creating infrastructures to support writers of color; consultations on how to build comprehensive and strategic plans to infuse DEI initiatives in the creative writing classroom, and more.
What’s your policy on confidentiality?
Anaphora Arts respects the privacy of all its participants, stakeholders, and affiliated parties, both formally and informally. Anaphora does not divulge or disseminate any information obtained throughout the registration process, as well as the programming of Anaphora DEI Symposium. Any information obtained about institutions and individuals will be kept strictly confidential. The registration form serves only as a source to ensure the authenticity of program participants, and to ascertain the organization delivers programs specifically catering the needs of such programs. Any information submitted to Anaphora will not be shared, partially or fully, to any external constituents, for any reason. Anaphora strives to foster an environment of community and mutual support, rather than competitiveness, with the objective of serving historically marginalized writers. If you have more questions, please always contact our staff.
What kind of support will my program receive after the symposium?
For any programs interested in participating in our year-long support, Anaphora will devise individual plans to help you sustain your goals and objectives, and make progress infusing DEI initiatives successfully into the creative classroom, as well as different aspects of the program. This kind of support will be optional, and programs will be contacted at the conclusion of the symposium with more details.
