General FAQs

What is Anaphora?

Anaphora Arts is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting writers and artists of color.

What kinds of programs do you offer?

We offer different programs, including residencies, retreats, workshops, conferences, masterclasses, professional development programs, and more.

Who can attend Anaphora’s programs?

Our program offering is designed to serve primarily writers and artists of color.

How do you determine programming?

Programs are designed in consultation with our rotating advisory board, with Anaphora fellows, and with our community at large. Every couple of years we also dispatch a climate survey to better understand the needs of writers of color, and continue to build extended infrastructures to support them in their creative practice.

When are programs announced?

Programs are announced on a rolling basis; sign up with our newsletter to receive updates.

Where are programs held?

Anaphora is based in Los Angeles, CA, so our in-person programs are held there. Please note: after the pandemic, all our program offering has shifted to virtual platforms (events are still held in Pacific Standard Time).

Do you offer financial assistance to attend programs?

Yes! Every year we offer financial assistance to attend our programs through fellowships. Please check the program you’re interested in to find out more.

Are you interested in partnering with other organizations for programming?
