Residency FAQ

When & where is the residency held?

The Anaphora Writing Residency (Winter) will run on February 16 - 25, 2023 and it will be held virtually.

What are the application dates?

Applications open on September 15, 2022 with a priority deadline on October 20, 2022. All applications received by the priority deadline will be eligible for fellowships.

Do you offer fellowships?

Every year, we offer several partial fellowships. The number of fellowships varies based on available funds; applications must be submitted by the priority deadline to be eligible for fellowships. All notifications of admission and fellowships will go out starting November 7, 2022.

How do you manage admission?

Every year, we recruit an anonymous admission board of peers; they evaluate applications based on the quality and potential of the writing samples. The admission board does not have access to any biographical data of potential applicants. Program staff works closely with the admission board to distribute fellowships accordingly.

Can I apply in multiple genres?

Yes, you may apply both in prose and poetry, but you can only be accepted in one genre.

What are the fees to attend the program?

The program fees are $2,400, and include workshops, craft talks, daily readings (by guests and program participants), masterclasses, generative sessions, and discussions with professionals from the industry, including literary agents, editors, and publishers. There is no fee to apply for the program.

Can international writers apply?

Yes, applications are open to all writers of color, regardless of location and status; international writers are eligible to apply for fellowships as well.
